# Shopify store sued over accessibility? Get the theme fixed and the proof on paper.

Most ADA website lawsuits and demand letters quote the same problems: product images with no description, icon buttons with no name, form fields with no label. We fix them in your theme's code, then give you a dated report of what was fixed and how it was tested, for you and your lawyer. Fixed price, no overlay widget.

- Free scan of your home page and a product page
- Theme fixed in 7 business days, from US$499
- Work done on a copy of your theme; you publish it when you're happy
- Proof report mapped to WCAG 2.1 AA, with what's left to do

We read the page the way a search engine does. Nothing is changed on your store, and we don't keep the results.

## Why Shopify stores are being sued

- **952 Shopify stores were sued** over website accessibility in US federal courts from January to June 2026, out of 2,045 cases. That's 47% of all cases, up from 653 a year earlier ([Ecomback mid-year report](https://www.ecomback.com/ada-website-lawsuits-recap-report/2026-mid-year-ada-website-lawsuit-report)).
- **Ten law firms filed 81% of those cases** (same report). They use templates, so the same problems are quoted again and again, and the same fixes answer them.
- **Accessibility widgets didn't stop them:** 24% of sued sites already had one installed (same report). A widget sits on top of the page; the problems are in the theme's code.

A lawsuit or demand letter usually asks you to fix the site and prove it. That's the part we do. Your lawyer handles the legal side.

## How it works

You stay in control of your store the whole time. We never edit your live theme.

- **Free scan and quote.** Run the scan, then send the form below. We reply within 1 business day with a fixed price and the list of pages we'll cover.
- **Access.** You add us as a Shopify collaborator, or send a password from Shopify's own Theme Access app. We copy your theme and work only on the copy.
- **Fixes.** We fix the code: image descriptions, link and button names, form labels, headings, keyboard use, focus you can see, colour contrast, menus and pop-ups (drawers, cart, quick view).
- **Testing.** Automated checks on every page type, plus keyboard-only testing by hand. The report says which checks were automated and which were done by hand.
- **You review and publish.** Preview the fixed copy, then publish it with one click. Your old theme stays saved.
- **Proof report.** A dated PDF: each problem, the WCAG 2.1 AA criterion, what we changed, before-and-after results, and what's still outside the theme (apps, checkout). Plus an accessibility statement page for your store.

## For defence lawyers

If your client runs a Shopify store, we can handle the fix-and-proof part on a fixed price and a set timeline, so the remediation terms of a settlement can actually be met. We work with your client's store directly, report to you and your client, and date every change. Write to [hello@disputekits.com](mailto:hello@disputekits.com) or use the form above and choose "I'm a lawyer with a client".

## Questions

### Will this make my store lawsuit-proof?

No, and nobody can promise that. We fix the problems we find in your theme and document them. That makes the common claims much harder to repeat, and it's the proof most settlements ask for. Your lawyer advises on the legal side; we're not lawyers and don't give legal advice.

### Will my store be "100% WCAG compliant"?

We don't claim that. Some things are outside the theme: Shopify controls the checkout pages, and storefront apps load their own code. The report lists those, so you can ask the app maker to fix them or replace the app.

### What does the free scan check?

It reads your home page and one product page and looks for images with no text alternative, links and buttons with no name, form fields with no label, a missing page language, zoom turned off, missing titles on embedded frames, and heading and landmark problems. It can't check colour contrast, keyboard use or screen readers; those are part of the paid fix.

### Do you use an accessibility widget or overlay?

No. We change your theme's code. If you have a widget, we'll tell you whether it's adding problems of its own.

### Is my live store at risk while you work?

No. We work on an unpublished copy of your theme. You preview it and publish it yourself, and your old theme stays saved in Shopify.

### What do you need from me?

Collaborator access to your store, or a Theme Access password, plus a list of any pages you care about most. You don't need to share your lawsuit or letter.

### Who does the work?

DisputeKit, run by Shubhankar Sharma in India. We use automated tools and AI to work faster, and every fix is checked before you see it. The report says which checks were automated and which were done by hand. We can't test the store the way a screen-reader user does, so the report marks the checks that need one.
